Pinos. 8:00 a.m. Join us for summer montane species such as Fox Sparrow, Green-tailed Towhee, Dusky Flycatcher, Cassin’s Finch, Hairy Woodpecker and Clark’s Nutcracker. Meet in the parking lot at Iris Meadows. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, insect repellent and lunch. Directions: From the San Fernando Valley, take I-5 north to the Frazier Park exit. Go west through Frazier Park and continue for about 20 miles up Mount Pinos Road to the end (and parking lot). No Adventure Pass or equivalent is required in the summer months along the Mt. Conservancy Bird Walk at Towsley Canyon. 8:00–10:00 a.m. Directions: Go north on I-5 through Santa Clarita, exit Calgrove and turn west (left) under the freeway and then left again on the Old Road. Tuesday, July 17. Weekday Wanderers Bird Walk at Solstice Canyon. 9:00 a.m.—to allow extra travel time. Directions: Take the 101 north to Las Virgenes/Malibu Canyon road. Turn left; go south to Pacific Coast Highway. Turn right on PCH and drive about two miles to Corral Canyon (just before the 76 Station). Turn right. Go about one block and turn left into Solstice Canyon Park. (Watch for speeding oncoming traffic around the curve.) Drive about a half-mile to the main parking lot. Travel about 1/2 mile to the second possible right turn (at sign for the Water Reclamation Plant and Japanese Garden). Thursday, June 28. General Membership Meeting. Annual Potluck and Members’ Slideshow. 6:30 p.m. Encino Community Center, 4935 Balboa Blvd., Encino. Located between Moorpark and Ventura Blvd., on the west side of Balboa, just south of the Presbyterian Church. Meet early for social hour followed by dinner, installation of officers for 2007–2008, and program. Culinary delights and photo adventures by SFVAS members for SFVAS members! Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. Plan to join in the potluck by bringing one of the following: a main dish, salad, rolls, or dessert to serve 8–10 people. Bring your own plate, cup and eating utensils. Beverages will be provided. The evening’s program will feature slide presentations from our own talented photographer members sharing their best slides. All are invited to participate. Limit the number of slides to 20 or less. Presenters must narrate. Possibilities are birds, nature, vacations, field trips, or backyard natural wonders.
