SFVAS has received a special invitation by the Boeing Company to participate in a fall tour of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) on Saturday, October 29, 2016. This site, in the hills between Chatsworth and Simi Valley, has a rich history in the U.S. space program.
It has significant Native American cultural resources, and is currently being returned to open space and being reclaimed by native plants and animals! In addition, San Fernando Valley Audubon Society has established a bird observatory at SSFL, and is researching the birds in the area using bird banding and standardized census methods.
The tour begins at 8:00 a.m. and includes bus travel through varied natural and historic sites. At several locations we will get off the bus and walk short distances to watch and listen for birds! You must pre-register for this event. Space is limited. SFVAS local members will receive preference. (Click here to join SFVAudubon!)
