Wind Swept Birds and Birders by Jeanne Kolasz

Very high winds occurred on Dick Barth’s field trip this year, which cut the walk short. However

Dick reports they were doing very well before the winds came. The result was their final species

count was down a little from the previous year. Despite windy conditions they had a final count

of 52 species.

Dick noted many highlights of the trip, including the Brown-crested Flycatcher, White-winged

Dove, Summer Tanager, Vermilion Flycatcher, Costa’s Hummingbird, Black-chinned

Hummingbird, Verdin, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Plumbeous Vireo, and Cassin’s Vireo. A

Yellow-breasted Chat and a Bell’s Vireo were noted as HEARD.

The species Dick listed are great finds…. especially for a windy day!

Thanks for your leadership, Dick!
