Save the Dates! Participate in a Christmas Bird Count

cbc-logo.jpgIn place of the chapter’s usual monthly field trip, the San Fernando Valley Audubon Society will join chapters across the country and take part in the National Audubon’s 108th annual Christmas Bird Count. This is one of our Chapter’s longest standing traditions, extending back to 1957, and is part of the world’s largest cooperative wildlife survey with over 50,000 participants in North and Central America, Hawaii, and the Carribean. Count totals are turned into and analyzed by the NAS in cooperation and conjunction with the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology.

There are three count circles in our service area: San Fernando Valley set for December 15, Lancaster in the Antelope Valley also set for December 15, and Santa Clarita set for December 29. Los Angeles Audubon sponsors the Antelope Valley count and two others: Malibu CBC on December 16 and Los Angeles on December 30 (see below.

We want to encourage you to join in one or more of these citizen science efforts. It’s a lot of fun and provides useful information on bird populations.
