Hansen Dam Bird Walk w/Pat Bates

The City of Los Angeles manages the extensive day-use facilities, including golf and riding stables, which are available at this site in the San Fernando Valley. Hansen Dam Aquatic Center is a 40-acre water recreation facility located on the northwest side of the Hansen Dam Recreation Area in Lakeview Terrace, California (approximately 25 miles north of downtown Los Angeles). The facility includes a 9-acre recreation lake and a 1.5-acre swimming lake.The facility has 50 public restrooms, 20 dressing rooms, 25 showers, and several picnic areas.
- Directions: From the 118 Eastbound to the 210 Freeway, Exit at Osborne. Turn left, you will be on Foothill, follow Foothill Blvd. to Orcas and turn right, continue straight into park. From CA 210 in Pasadena go West on I-210. Exit at Wheatland and go right to Foothill Blvd., go left to Orcas, and then left on Orcas into Park. Follow driveway curving left to furthest (dirt) parking area. In the event of mud, park in the furthest paved lot. Over 280 species of birds have been seen at Hansen Dam, which holds the record for most species seen in a day in the San Fernando Valley at 120. It is a huge area with lots of varied habitat. Walks are on the fourth Saturday of every month.
